Smith students qualify for state tourney in track and tennis

Freshman Daphne Myers won at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4) as No. 17 E.O. Smith (10-7) dropped a 6-1 CIAC Class S qualifying-round girls tennis decision to No.16 Branford (14-7), which later handed host and top-seeded Avon (20-1) its first loss with a 4-3 first-round victory.

Schools to receive $111,156 in stimulus funds

While some area school districts saw an increase in stimulus money compared to earlier projections, others will have to temper their expectations after Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced final grant figures Tuesday.
