windham_hospitalAs national healthcare reform moves forward in Washington, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney will host two roundtable discussions - including one locally -  on healthcare reform next week.

The discussions will take place on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Windham Community Memorial Hospital, located at 112 Mansfield Ave. in Willimantic.

Another forum is planned for Wednesday, July 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Rose City Senior Center located at 8 Mahan Drive in Norwich.

Courtney will be joined by healthcare experts and advocates, as well as residents who responded to a recent online survey from the Congressman’s office.

The individuals will discuss difficulties they have had with the healthcare system and insurance industry.

For more than two and a half years, Courtney has been a leading advocate in Congress of ending the discriminatory practice by insurers of denying coverage to individuals based on pre-existing conditions.

The draft proposal includes similar language to Courtney’s H.R. 1558, legislation that would ban pre-existing condition exclusions.

Courtney is a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, which helped to create the draft reform proposal.
