Single stream recycling comes to Willington

Beginning July 1, Willington residents can now “single stream” all recyclables at the Town Transfer Station.  That means no more separating glass from paper and cardboard from plastic.  It now can all be dumped together.  It’s that simple, no more separating items.
Acceptable items for single stream recycling include:  cardboard,  newspaper/inserts/ magazines/brochures, white and color paper, [...]

Asian borer poses threat to ash trees

The bad news came out from the West last week - another dreadful tree-killing pest, the emerald ash borer, had crossed state lines, moving from the Midwest into New York.
“There’s actually a closer infestation, in Mifflin, Pa.,” said Rose Hiskes, a diagnostician with the insect division of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven.
