Postponed – DEEP Commissioner to ‘charge up’ at Storrs Center

Editor’s note – This event was postponed because of winter weather. When a new new date is announced, I will share that information.

Connecticut DEEP Commissioner Dan Esty is expected to join Mansfield Mayor Betsy Paterson and other local dignitaries at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 to tour the Storrs Center development.

The visit is meant to highlight energy and pro-environment aspects of the development, including electric vehicle charging stations for the public.

Commissioner Esty is expected to charge his Chevy Volt at one of these stations – there are four, Level-2 retractable electric charging stations – and a Hertz car-share program will be introduced.

In the Mansfield parking garage (off Dog Lane), a Chevrolet Volt is parked at one of the charging stations and is available for use through Hertz On Demand.

Anyone with a valid driver’s license can become a member, at no cost, of this program, which offers the opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle while running errands without making an investment beyond the $8 or $9 per hour car-share fee.

Another charging station is located in the municipal lot next to the Mansfield Community Center.

For parking garage pass holders and the Community Center station, the cost is $1 per hour of charge. Parking garage ticket holders pay a flat fee of $3.

On Tuesday, speeches will be made outside the new shops along Dog Lane; or inside the Dog Lane Café in the event of rain or snow

A reception will follow at the Dog Lane Café.
