Police arrest suspect in the murder of ECSU student

CT State Police report that the remains found with the aid of police dogs on Friday in Trumbull near the Bridgeport line is the body of the missing Eastern Connecticut State University student Alyssiah Wiley.

Police also say they have arrested a suspect in connection with her death, a 30-year-old man, Jermaine Richards, of Bridgeport.

On May 7, 2013 members of The State Police Statewide Narcotic Task Force – East Field Office with the assistance of Troop C police and the DEA Hartford Office executed a search and seizure warrant at 122 Nagy Road in Ashford, CT.

Police referred to the site as a “marijuana grow house’ and say more than 100 marijuana plants, 2.5 pounds of marijuana pre-packaged for sale, $2,100 in cash, drug paraphernalia and cultivation and packaging material were seized.

Major parties – and petitioning candidates – only have until May 6 to endorse candidates for a special election that has been slated for Tuesday, June 11, 2013 – to fill the vacancy left by departing State Rep. Bryan Hurlburt in the 53rd District.

Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill today (April 26) announced the date of the special election to fill the seat of State Rep. Bryan Hurlburt who resigned on April 16 in order to take a position with the administration of President Barack Obama in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Services Bureau.

The 53rd Assembly District includes the towns of Tolland, Ashford, and Willington.

The Connecticut State Police Major Crime and Missing Person Unit Detectives are continuing the search for a young woman reported missing from the Eastern Connecticut State University campus in Willimantic, CT.

Now, State Police Detectives are asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle they say is related to the case – a black, four-door, 2009 Nissan Altima sedan with tinted windows and plate CT Reg 297-ZOY.

World Book Night “officially” is recognized on April 23 but the celebration on the UConn campus is planned for when most students would normally be on campus.

The celebration is at McMahon Hall, 2011 Hillside Road.

Ruth will give out copies of her favorite book from the list of 30 books provided by the WBN event coordinators, The Phantom Tollbooth.

The EIE considered the projected demands for the University’s Tech Park and the Next Generation initiative, as well as the Town of Mansfield’s plans for redevelopment of the Four Corners, the proposed managed care facility, and other potential development in the community consistent with their local plans.
